The GNSS Speedometer is a lightweight and free app that utilizes GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) such as GPS and GLONASS. It can be used in various vehicles including cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and even airplanes. Please note that the accuracy of the app depends on factors such as the precision of your device's navigation module, weather conditions, terrain, obstacles, and other variables. To ensure optimal accuracy, it is recommended that your device has a clear view of the sky.
Key features:
- Russian and English language options
- Units of measurement: km/h (kilometers), MPH (miles), knots (nautical miles). Changing the units will immediately update the current, average, maximum speed, and odometer.
- Five speed ranges: 0–30, 0–60, 0–120, 0–240, 0–1200. Selecting the appropriate range enhances the accuracy of speed readings based on your driving mode.
- AMOLED anti-Burn-in feature: The main screen shifts a few pixels every 9 seconds to reduce the risk of OLED/AMOLED display burn-in.
- No internet connection required.
- Current speed can be displayed in analog or digital format.
- Four colors to choose from for the odometer display. Simply tap on the total mileage to change the color.
- Includes display of average and maximum speed, altitude, and coordinates of your current location.
- Supports both 24-hour or 12-hour time formats and provides elapsed track recording time. Clicking on the time will toggle between clock and elapsed time displays.
- One-touch button feature allows for quick and easy sharing of your coordinates. This can be useful, especially in emergency situations where children can send their coordinates to their parents.
- Supports recording tracks in KML and GPX formats.
- The app can continue running even when the screen is off or when used simultaneously with another application such as Google Maps. If you see a notification in the status bar, it indicates that the GNSS Speedometer is still active. You can stop the app by tapping the "back" button when the main screen is open.
App interface description:
- In the upper left corner, you can find the icon indicating the presence or absence of a satisfactory satellite signal, along with the number of used/visible satellites.
- The lower left corner displays an estimate of the positioning accuracy.
- In the lower right corner, there is a button for sharing your current location coordinates. This feature comes in handy if you have made plans to meet someone but they are having trouble finding you. You can share your coordinates via SMS, instant messengers, social networks, email, etc. To view the location, simply copy and paste the obtained coordinates into search bars of mapping applications such as Google Maps, Google Earth, Yandex.Maps, Yandex.Navigator, 2GIS, OsmAnd, and others. It is worth noting that this method works even without an internet connection as long as offline maps of the corresponding area have been downloaded.
- There is also a round button labeled "T" which is used to enable or disable track recording. At the end of each recording session, you will be prompted to save one or two files with extensions ".gpx" and ".kml". The default file name includes the recording start time from which you can differentiate between different recordings. You can view KML tracks in Google Earth and GPX tracks in a compatible GPX track viewer.
Permissions:
To accurately measure speed and calculate the distance traveled, the GNSS Speedometer requires access to your device's location. Therefore, it will request permission to access your location data.
